How Building Your Education Team Impacts Student Performance
Have you gotten to see an education team in action? We’ve been fortunate over the past few years to work with several of these great teams. These are the folks on the front lines, working with students, building the future of our communities. Elementary, middle and high schools, colleges and universities are the place where our children can learn, grow and develop. The teams that drive this process are critical to our society and yet sometimes overlooked.
Test results:
Research indicates that faculty members on the education team often feel isolated from one another and may have difficulty truly experiencing themselves as part of a team. Despite being right next door, they may spend the day only seeing their peers in the hallways and otherwise seeing only their students. Between updating lesson plans, grading work, training and tracking metrics, teachers can go days without actually connecting with their team mates.

Similarly, the administrative side of the education team is up to their eyeballs with specific student and parent needs, county and district reporting, goal setting and responding to emails. Sometimes building a professional learning community can become an important but not urgent item on the to do list.
What about the kids?
Related studies also indicate that creating a team atmosphere within the faculty and staff will boost both morale and student performance. Morale, great. Nice to have. Student performance? Whoa! Those are what those metrics and reports are all about. Win, win! The educational team is built and student learning improves.
Professional Learning Communities:
